Mega Drive table games

In Japan, the icon-based genre system Sega adopted in the 1980s didn't make way for computer board game and parlour game simulations that would see quite a high number of releases on the Mega Drive. Sega eventually went with two icons and two genre names — "Home Game" and "Family Game" — but these were eventually merged into "Table Game" once the icon-based system was ended.

Outside Japan, these types of games would primarily come in the form of board game licenses — the 1990s saw more heavy board game advertising directly to kids, and the various board game manufacturers saw possibilities with computer versions.
