History of Sega in Indonesia
Official Sega distributor(s): Gama (199x-199x), New Era (2005-2016), Play Interactive (2016-2018), Epicsoft Asia (2018-present), Sega Singapore (2022-present)

Sega is thought to have official distribution channels in Indonesia, however very little is currently known.

Many Sega consoles and components were manufactured in Indonesia. In September 1991, Sega signed a contract with Micro Supply CV for the production of Mega Drive console starting from October 1991,[1] in order to meet increased demend for Mega Drive in Asia, especially in Singapore, Taiwan and Indonesia.[2] In June 1995, Sega announced that it was planning to move production of all gaming machines out of Japan by the end of March 1996. Even before that, the company already produced all gaming machines for foreign markets and 60% of gaming machines for the Japanese market at foreign plants in Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, China and Taiwan.[3][4]

Indonesia was flooded with Mega Drive clones in mid-90s but Sega was also here selling official products - Mega Drive, Game Gear, Mega Drive 32X and Sega Saturn. The Gama is known to distribute some of the systems from at least mid-1990s, like Lock-On or merchandise (for example Virtua Racing Metal Mach)[5]. They also introduced Pico into the country in late 1997 and Sega expected to sell 330,000 units in Taiwan and Indonesia by 2000[6]. At the same time, SS Mega Dunia Sega venues were created across the country. This was the time of large popularity of arcade game systems in Indonesia. Many arcade tournaments were held here such as Kejuaraan Nasional Daytona USA I (SS Mega Dunia - 1996), Kompetisi Manx TT Superbike (Mega Pasaraya Space Adventure Blok M - 1996), Kompetisi Virtua Fighter 3 (SS Mega Dunia - February 1997), Kompetisi Indy 500 (Mega Pasaraya Space Adventure Blok M - 1997), Kompetisi Sega Rally Championship (SS Mega Dunia - 1997), Kompetisi Daytona USA (X-Trac Blok M Plaza - 1997), Kejuaraan Nasional Daytona USA II (SS Mega Dunia - 1997), Kompetisi Daytona USA (Timezone - 1998), Kejuaraan Nasional Daytona USA III (Timezone - 1998) and Kompetisi Daytona USA (Timezone - 2004)[7]. Dreamcast was also seen in some of the bigger local retailers of consoles.

New Era Indonesia from 2006 to 2016 was a distributor.[8][9]. From 2016 to 2018 games were sold by Play Interactive.

In 2010s, Sega created Sega Asia which handle regional releases of games,[10] but not physical distribution.

In 2018, Epicsoft Asia was appointed sole distributor of Sega games starting with Yakuza 6: The Song of Life, Shining Resonance Refrain, Valkyria Chronicles 4, Fist of the North Star and Virtual-On[11]. From 2019, they distributed Genesis Mini.[12]

In October 13, 2022, Sega established Sega Singapore for marketing purpose in Southeast Asia but Epicsoft will still remain as distributor.[13][14]

Passion Marketing distributes toys form Sega.[15]
