From Sega Retro

In 1889, Fusajiro Yamauchi established the Marufuku Company to manufacture and distribute Japanese playing cards. In 1951, Yamauchi changed the name of Marufuku Co. Ltd. to Nintendo, a term that means "leave luck to heaven". In 1978, Nintendo released "Othello", it's first arcade game, and in 1980, Minoru Arakawa opened Nintendo of America. Later on, "Donkey Kong" and the Famicom would be released. Years later, they would release products in America such as the NES, SNES, Gameboy, Virtual Boy, Nintendo 64 and Nintendo GameCube. Their flagship mascot is Mario, a fat Italian plumber carpenter.
