Victory Goal '96 (ビクトリーゴール’96) is a Japanese football game developed by Team Aquila exclusively for the Sega Saturn, and a direct sequel to Victory Goal.

Like Victory Goal and its sequel, J. League Victory Goal '97, Victory Goal '96 was not released outside of Japan.

Gameplay

Victory Goal '96 is a significant upgrade over its predecessor, sporting not only an updated player roster for the 1996 J. League season, but an entirely new 3D engine, with the players depicted as 3D models (as opposed to Victory Goal and International Victory Goal, where all players are 2D sprites). It also has limited commentary which is missing in previous games.

History

Release

Victory Goal '96 was released in March 1996, and with Sega of America wanting to promote a football game for Christmas at E3 1996, this game was brought to that event and advertised as Worldwide Soccer II. As it was a (presumably unchanged) build of Victory Goal '96, some sources covering E3 1996 use the Victory Goal name[5][6], while others use Worldwide Soccer II[7], as labeled on the stand.

Given Victory Goal '96 uses J.League teams, it is unlikely that it was set to be released in North America, and was simply a stand-in for the not-yet complete Sega Worldwide Soccer 97.
