Stage select
On the title screen of the Western versions, hold 
and rotate the D-Pad in a clockwise direction starting from 
until a sound plays, then start the game. In the Japanese version, use Game Genie code REFT-A6VJ.

On the title screen of the Western versions, hold and rotate the D-Pad in a clockwise direction starting from (triggering the level select sound above) and keep going. When you get to 
, start rotating anticlockwise until you reach again. Then do a full clockwise rotation, and if performed correctly, the credits will automatically begin.
This is 
, not dissimilar to a dial combination lock.
