Bypass region lockout

When loading the game on an incorrect system region and the A button is held down before the static Konami logo appears, the game will bypass the region check and skip to the title screen.

Alternate music with final upgrades

In the options menu, play BGM 05 and SFX 073, then start the game. This will make one of three classic Castlevania tracks (Vampire Killer, Bloody Tears and Beginning) override the regular stage music when the Vampire Killer/Alcarde Spear is fully upgraded during gameplay. This will stop if the upgrade is lost.

Expert mode

Expert mode is normally unlocked when the game has been beaten, but the player can unlock it immediately by pressing  START  on the title screen, then press Up Up Down Down Left Right Left Right B A (the Konami code) on the title screen menu. A sound will confirm correct entry.

9 lives and free continues

In the options menu, play BGM 05 and SFX 073, then return to the title screen and wait for "PRESS START BUTTON" to reappear. Press  START , then press Up Up Down Down Left Right Left Right B A. A sound will confirm correct entry. This not only unlocks Expert mode, but also allows the player to set their starting lives to 9.

Additionally, if the player gets a Game Over or presses RESET after this code has been entered, starting a new game will immediately start the player from the last scene they have reached.
