The Downloadable Cartridge is an unreleased rewritable Sega Mega Drive cartridge developed by Baton Technologies. Used in conjunction with the company's equally-unreleased Teleplay System modem, the cartridge would operate in a similar manner to the Sega Channel, allowing users to download a single game into its EEPROM memory over a dial-up internet connection.[1]

History

Development on the Downloadable Cartridge seems to have not progressed far, as the hardware received very little in the way of marketing, and what promotion it did receive was seemingly delivered by marketing representatives unsure about the final specifications. Regardless, GamePro speculated each cartridge will likely hold a single game at a time, and that downloadable titles would cost anywhere from $5 to $15.[1]
