Hyd Lunch is a musical artist, officially labeled an "Affective music creation team"[1], comprising of 2 musicians: Yasuyuki Matsuzaki (Guitarist, Mandolinist, Composer, Sound Producer) and Hiroaki Watanabe (Pianist, DJ, Trackmaker, Remixer, Sound Producer)[2]. They have contributed numerous songs to the Yakuza franchise since Kurohyou: Ryu ga Gotoku Shinshou, while Matsuzaki by himself has also played guitar for mobile games D×2: Shin Megami Tensei Liberation and Idola: Phantasy Star Saga.

History

Hyd Lunch started out as an ambient rock band[3] which made vocal and instrumental music, often with additional effects[1], but the group eventually disbanded and stopped performing, with members Yasuyuki Matsuzaki and Hiroaki Watanabe pursuing separate music careers[3][1].

Matsuzaki became a member of the Dub Rock group SKUNK HEADS, giving him opportunities to play at large rock festivals[1], including Rising Sun Rock Festival [3], and was a support guitarist on the Japan tours of both Bill Laswell and Funkadelic's Bernie Worrell[1].

Watanabe started a solo project named "re:plus". His debut song "Everlasting Truth" was released in July 2009 and reached No. 1 on the iTunes hip-hop chart[4]. This project has continued to release albums and achieve success long after the reformation of Hyd Lunch.

The two musicians reconvened to create music for the video game Kurohyou: Ryu ga Gotoku Shinshou in 2010[3], establishing them as contract musician for video games and musical artists[1]. The group would debut on a main series Yakuza in 2012 with Yakuza 5, and created the opening and ending themes new to the English version released in 2015[5].
