Pixar Animation Studios is an American animation studio serving as a unit of the Walt Disney Studios, a division of The Walt Disney Company. The company was founded on February 3, 1986 when the Graphics Group division of Lucasfilm was spun-off as a separate independent studio. Pixar started by producing computer-animated short films before teaming up with Disney for what would become Toy Story as well as other computer-animated films. In 2006, Disney purchased the studio.
