The SNES version has a publisher credit to DVS Electronic Co. while the Mega Drive version doesn't have a publisher credit.

Super NES

The Mega Drive version has the options set to Normal difficulty with three lives and continues by default and has no restrictions, while the SNES version is set to Easy and restricts the other settings according to the chosen difficulty.

Super NES

The SNES version only animates the top banner and the bottom banner is coloured blue. The Mega Drive version makes both banners move and the same colour, and the top banner replaces "NEXT" with the stage number.

Super NES

All stages begin with the camera panning down from the top of the level and Pikachu falling down in the SNES version. The Mega Drive version has Pikachu on or close to the ground as soon as the stage begins. The HUD is also very different between both versions, with health and electrical power being displayed differently.

The Mega Drive version adds Pinsir as a mid-boss, and changes the level design to accommodate its inclusion.

The Mega Drive version makes the level's boss bigger and makes it stand up during its attacks.

The Mega Drive version takes away the boss' ability to jump onto the platforms, and allows Pikachu to attack it even when it's moving, making it easier to defeat. It is also slightly bigger in the Mega Drive version.

Stage 4 has a completely different appearance between the SNES and Mega Drive versions, with the SNES version copying graphics from Petrolith Castle from Skyblazer. The level designs are also completely different, with the Mega Drive version having a shorter, less difficult level.

Super NES

Both versions feature Gengar as the boss of the stage, with Gengar being slightly bigger as well as being much easier to defeat as Pikachu can stomp it during any of its movements. In the SNES version, Pikachu can only jump on Gengar when it stops to flail its arms.

Stage 5 also has a different appearance across both versions, with the SNES version copying graphics and some level design from Faltine's Woods from Skyblazer.

Super NES

Both versions share the same graphics for the boss arena, however. While the Mega Drive version has a unique final boss in the form of Onix, the SNES version is instead a boss rush featuring palette-swapped versions of all the previous bosses with slightly different strategies.

The ending screen has scrolling text in the SNES version that congratulates the player. The Mega Drive version instead has a scrolling background.
