Coffee Crisis is an arcade-style beat-'em-up game for the Sega Mega Drive that was developed and published Mega Cat Studios in February 2017. The game was successfully crowdfunded on Kickstarter with $15,076 pledged of its $10,000 goal.[3]

Story

The Smurglian race has come to Earth and they're not leaving until they steal our four most prized commodities: our metal music, the best coffee, cat videos, and all of the WiFi. Challenge them through unique and innovative levels inspired by real-life areas, on a retro platform that needs new games like Earthlings need WiFi, the Sega Genesis. Join Black Forge Coffeehouse baristas Nick and Ashley, two galaxy gladiators called to arms to stop this madness and remove the Smurglian threat from Earth.

The Smurgliens can have the Kid Rocks, Coldplays, and Linkin Parks… but if you don’t help our heroes fend off against the alien-assimilated elderly, bros, cowgirls, and country western singers, who knows what could happen!

Gameplay

Coffee Crisis is a side-scrolling beat-'em-up game that take inspiration from classic games like Streets of Rage or Golden Axe. Players have to fight their way through waves of enemies, collecting power-ups and earning points, as they progress through 8 challenging levels.

There is a special attack that players can use, but it will deplete a bit of life force whenever it is used. Unfortunately, losing all lives in this game will result in a permanent game over and having to then make use of a password to start from the same level.

The game was designed with cooperative play in mind, and offers two-player support, where players can choose to play as either Nick Miller or Ashley Corts from the Black Forge Coffee House.
