Firebird Software was a video game publishing label owned by British firm Telecomsoft, a subsidiary of British Telecom (BT) established in 1984. It was one of three labels used by the company, the others being "Silverbird" (budget software) and "Rainbird" (16-bit software). Firebird itself published budget software for the first few months of its existence, however the release of Elite prompted it to move to full price software, with Silverbird brought in to take its place.
Despite a £6 million turnover in 1987-1988[1], BT put Telecomsoft up for sale in early 1989[1]. The company was acquired by MicroProse[2], who operated the label (alongside Rainbird) for a few years.
