Spider-Man is an action game released for the Sega Mega Drive in 1995 by Acclaim. It is not to be confused with the earlier Spider-Man vs. The Kingpin, released by Sega in 1991, which was also called just Spider-Man.

The game is based on the 1994 animated series of the same name. A somewhat different version for the Super NES was also released.

Story

Villains

Several of Spider-Man's most dangerous foes have escaped from Ravencroft prison (including Dr. Octopus, the Green Goblin, Alistair Smythe, and the Alien Spider Slayer), and Spider-Man must put a stop to them before they wreck New York City.

Gameplay

Spider-Man The Animated Series, Pause Menu.png

Pause menu

The game is an action platformer played as the costumed crime-fighter Spider-Man. Spider-Man must defeat the bosses of each stage in order to open the exit. The last boss of each stage drops a card, which Spider-Man needs for the last stage to open the way to the final boss.

Spider-Man runs with Left and Right. He crouches with Down and crawls with Down-left and Down-right. He jumps with B. Many stages allow Spider-Man to jump to the background layer with B and jump back to the foreground with Down+B. He grabs onto walls and ceilings by pressing B while holding the D-Pad in the direction of the surface. He punches with A and performs a flying kick with A when in midair. He flips switches by hitting them. He shoots a string of web upward to latch onto ceilings with Up+C while standing or with C while jumping.

Spider-Man uses his special weapon with C. His special weapon, which is firing a Web Bolt by default, has limited supply and can be changed by pausing the game with  START . Web Bolts can be fired in midair with B. Spider-Man can also find special icons that allow him to call on a member of the Fantastic Four to assist him (selectable through the same menu as special weapons).

Spider-Man has a health bar in the top center of the screen, and he loses a life if he runs out of health. The game ends if he runs out of lives, but it can be continued as long as the player has continues remaining. There are three difficulty levels (Easy, Normal, and Hard).
