I think we should be showing magazine thumbnails. I don't think "File:whatever UK 0214324123.pdf" is particularly good thing to have uh... "customer facing"(??) but also I think covers are a better way to represent the magazine than a release date. It's the covers people are more likely to remember - it's the face of the publication, and it saves extra clicks.

It's also important from an archival point of view. "If you have a magazine that looks like this, we want it scanned". Although I will concede proper PDF thumbnails might be unfeasible if they tank the server on page load.

Otherwise the question is whether we want to keep all these unused JPEG placeholders -Black Squirrel (talk) 13:48, 12 February 2020 (EST)

Realistically, PDF thumbnails aren't going to happen. We could have JPEG copies of all the covers, which I wouldn't be entirely happy about because of all the extra work and duplicate files. If we could display external images, we could pull thumbnails directly without going through PDFhandler (example), but I don't think that's enabled here. - Hivebrain (talk) 14:06, 12 February 2020 (EST)
