Category:Atari ST games
From Sega Retro
Like the Amiga, companies such as U.S. Gold and Activision were keen to bring some of Sega's arcade games to the Atari ST. The ST would spend most of its life playing second-best to the Commodore Amiga's superior graphics and sound capabilities, but many Amiga games were identical to their ST counterparts as the differences weren't always too obvious.
Not including compilations, there were in total 31 officially licensed Sega games for the Atari ST, compared with the Amiga's 32 (the Amiga had an extra port of After Burner II). Almost all of them came from the existing Sega System 16 and Sega System 24 arcade libraries. Like the Amiga, more complicated titles such as Power Drift were brought to the system but ultimately had to make severe cutbacks in order to get the game to run.
Unfortunately one of the problems with the Atari ST was that compatible floppy disks had less memory capacity. This means a game distributed on the Atari ST may have came with more disks than its Amiga counterpart. These disks would likely have to be exchanged several times during gameplay.
Like the Amiga, Sega stopped supporting the Atari ST in the early 1990s as more people migrated to video game consoles or DOS-based computers. Atari themselves would continue to try and compete against Sega with their Atari Jaguar video game console.
