When Kid Chameleon is down to his last life, press and hold  START  on the exact frame Kid Chameleon loses his last hit point. If timed correctly, the pause menu will display after Kid Chameleon falls off the screen. Select "Give Up", and the lives counter will underflow to 255 lives, causing the life counter to disappear as shown in the second screenshot. When further lives are lost, the life counter will display garbage data.

Not fixed in any version.
