Maru-chan de Goo!

From Sega Retro

Translation of グー!!! ?

Hm, thoughts. I found this article searching for Goo!, and the funny name struck me. But should this maybe be more correctly translated as either "Go!!!" or "Gooo!!!"? I think this might come down to how you want to define a literal translation (because of the "ー" character following グ indicating its a held sound), but I think in this case, when the intention is to translate the Japanese word into the English word, the English word written most for exclaiming a held "Go!" is one of the two aforementioned ones, but specifically its never the word "Goo". Take a manga translated into English: you won't see a character you originally yelled the exclamation as "Goo!" because in English, that word means like a gooey, sticky substance etc, and so you'll either see a "Go!", or the same with specifically three or more 'o's.

Im like very very inexperienced in translating/localizing/etc, but right now, this article's title essentially reads "Maru-chan de Gross Sticky Stuff!!!", and I just have a feeling thats not the most accurate. Again, inexperienced here, but just wanted to share my thoughts :) CartridgeCulture (talk) 02:35, 31 October 2021 (EDT)
