MDThirdPartyControllers

From Sega Retro

This is getting messy - I don't think this template can cope with the numbers of third-party controllers out there. Stuff is so badly documented that I can easily run into something new... which can then ruin my previous efforts to link designs up with manufacturers and etc. There are few pages which I thought were fairly accurate a year ago but are flat-out wrong today.

My thoughts

a) people don't generally know the official names of accessories (and some are dubious to begin with - there's a lot of MEGA PADs and SUPER PADs). I'm thinking a template like this needs to be more... visual, much like the game templates on Sonic Retro or something. So someone can say "hey I have a controller like that" without having to hunt out old boxes they've likely thrown away. I'd use product codes but I don't know what half of them are because internet photos suck, so images might be a better way. I did try this a few months ago but it gets awkward - there are tons of controllers after all

b) Some of this stuff... I can't trace... yet. I don't know what they're called or where they came from, only that they exist. Might be better therefore not to organise by manufacturer? I really don't know

c) It's probably a good idea to separate pads from sticks, so two templates (three for "OTHER")?
