WWF Raw is a wrestling game developed by Sculptured Software and published by Acclaim for the Sega Mega Drive, Sega 32X, Sega Game Gear, Game Boy and SNES. This is the only Genesis WWE game to support up to four players. It is a sequel to WWF Royal Rumble. New to the series is differing attributes and a new tug-of-war grapple system.

For whatever reason, the Japanese Mega Drive release uses the European box style.

Gameplay

In addition to standard punch and kick attacks the player can perform a grapple which brings up a new tug-of-war meter. When this appears the player must rapidly press buttons to pull the energy to their side. When the bar has moved to their side enough it is possible to perform moves. When the players energy is low enough it is also possible to use a signature move.

Game modes include: One-on-One match (One Fall, Brawl, and Tournament is available), Tag Team, Bedlam, Survivor Series, Royal Rumble, and Raw Endurance.

Version Differences

The 32X version of RAW has Kwang as a secret playable character. He is unlocked by pressing Down+A+B on the wrestler select screen. He shares moves with other characters such as using Diesel's & Bam Bam Bigelow's finisher and Doink's mega move. Some lighter wrestlers can do a schoolboy pin my standing behind a groggy pin and the taunt pin that the heavy wrestlers are slightly different. The commentator team images change between Vince McMahon and Jerry Lawler and the team of Gorilla Monsoon and Stephanie Wyant. There is also alternating referees. The intro and character select screen is slightly different and has new music. Lex Luger's theme music is also updated. A sign with RAW on it and a medical kit case can be found on the outside of the ring to be used as weapons. The ring apron and Turnbuckles are a purplish instead of red and blue.

The Game Gear version has fewer wrestlers and does not include the Bedlam, Royal Rumble, or Raw Endurance match types. All characters share the same moveset except for their signature moves. There are no Mega Moves. The game runs slower. Two exclusive characters are present: Crush and Randy Savage.
