Sega (Shanghai) Software Co., Ltd., trading as Sega of China or Sega Studio China R&D Dept.[2] is a subsidiary of Sega based in Shanghai, China, headed by former AM1/Sega WOW member Makoto Uchida.
Sega of China was created in 2002 under the name Sega WOW Software (Shanghai) Co.,Ltd.[1], during the production phase of "Project Altered Beast". While the studio develops games in their own right, much of its work involves supporting Japanese teams, who often outsource asset creation to China to speed up development. The studio has also also used to port older games to newer systems, such as the 2008 PlayStation 2 release of NiGHTS into Dreams, or the contents of Dreamcast Collection.
