These medals could later be sold directly for money. Sega saw this (or was even aware pre-launch), and quickly began development of the ''[[Olympia Star]]'' with the same setup, before even applying for government permission. Taito caught wind of this, got angry, and got in touch with Sega to protest. For some reason, probably related to Taito's machine being a copy of Sega's machine in almost every way, the two ended up working together and formed the joint-venture [[Olympia (company)|Olympia]]. Sega would play the part of providing the shells and selling the product (hence the ultimate Sega product, the ''Olympia Star''), with Taito having done the legwork with opening the way for the new industry and establishing the initial concept.
