Rise of the Robots is a fighting game originally developed by Mirage Technologies for the Amiga and DOS-based computers and published by Time Warner Interactive in 1994, which was later ported to the Sega Mega Drive and Sega Game Gear, amongst other systems, in the same year, with the Mega Drive version being a European exclusive and published by Acclaim instead.

The game was notable for the massive amount of buzz that surrounded it before its release, and the generally poor reception it recieved when it was released. It also advertised the inclusion of a soundtrack by former Queen guitarist Brian May, but only one song of his made it to the final release: The Dark, used as the title theme, with certain versions also having the song Resurrection for cutscenes, both of them songs from his 1992 solo album Back to the Light. The rest of the game's music are original tracks by composer Richard Joseph.

A Mega-CD port was planned to be released by JVC in the US, and it even had a promo video with "work in progress" footage (said footage being of the DOS version), but this was cancelled. The Mega Drive version's staff roll features a credit for "MEGA DRIVE AND MEGA-CD PROGRAMMING" to the same person, so it's highly likely the Mega-CD version would've been mostly the same as that one but with added FMV and CD audio.

It was followed by Rise 2 Resurrection in 1996.
