B shoots; there is rapidfire and some powerups depend on it. A shoots a single shot. Holding A charges a flash attack which damages everything on screen. Once it is fully charged, let go of A to perform the attack; you must then wait for the charge bar to empty (it will show you a black bar telling you how much time you must wait) before you can charge another. Powerups are collected by destroying barrels scattered throughout each level.
