Masahiko Tanabe (田邊 雅彦) is a programmer at Sega. He first worked at Sega Rosso. During the development of Initial D Arcade Stage Ver. 3 in 2003, Sega Rosso was merged with Hitmaker, and Tanabe began working on the World Club Champion Football starting with the Serie A 2002-2003 Ver.2.0 and continuing to maintain and refine the series' player AI until it was completely overhauled in Intercontinental Clubs 2006-2007[3]. The AI program was patented by Tanabe in 2010[4].

After the series wrapped up with WCCF Footista 2021, Tanabe moved on to Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis, now creating more hidden programs that determine user permissions like "the player can attack/jump here"[5].
