Contents
Rename all characters
When starting a new game, press + START when confirming the name of the main character to rename all the main characters in the game[1].
Sound test
Complete the game on any save file, then continue or start a new game and hold + START before the screen fades out. Use the D-Pad to select a song, to play the selected song, and to fade out the currently playing song[1].
Difficult mode
Complete the game on any save file, then press five times on the Sega logo. A sound will confirm correct entry, and "Excelent" will appear on the title screen[1].
Cheat mode
When the Sega logo appears, press . A sound will confirm correct entry. This will enable the following cheats when starting a new game:
- All characters will start with 99 HP and MP.
- Hold ++ START during battle to instantly win it.
- Hold ++ START during battle to instantly lose it.
- 1,000,000 gold will be awarded for winning battles.
Hidden text
Located at ROM address D6, and used to check if backup RAM has been initialised[2]:
Kodera MR2
This string is common to all three Shining Force Gaiden games. "Kodera" refers to programmer Haruki Kodera.
