Another one I don't think exists. It's mentioned on LAPP as existing but I don't know. A third game IS teased on the artwork of the first two games, but I also can't find any evidence for this one either. Now I trust LAPP but even they're not perfect. No one is. But they're generally right. Out of either of these two, I think both were planned, but this might have gotten farther.

Mega LD games information

I have no plans to hunt down info for Mega LD games. But there's a handy dandy link if someone else wants to -Black Squirrel 07:55, 16 April 2011 (CDT)

LaserActive? Pioneer LaserActive?

Will be eventually renaming this to Pioneer LaserActive to match our other hardware article titles (Sega Mega Drive vs Mega Drive). It was primarily (and only ever?) manufactured by Pioneer, so its not like a 3DO situation. I think what might have tripped us up was either A) The wikipedia article going by that title, or B) It was marketed as like, A/V hardware first and a game console second (kinda), and in that family of technology, sometimes you wouldn't use the manufacturer name? But that's not always true either.

Another reason for the name might have been because the system is a three-way company thing, with Sega/NEC/Pioneer? But a lot of hardware has those qualities, even hardware with this kind of "insert another company's hardware" system. And as I'm typing this I'm realizing how many of our articles DON'T have manufacturer names in front of them, like Wondermega.

Personally, the only systems that shouldn't have a manufacturer in the title are, again, cases like the 3DO Interactive Multiplayer. Where a design was licensed out to more than one manufacturer. At least off the top of my head. Either way, just wanted to share the reasoning behind the move. CartridgeCulture (talk) 01:35, 15 June 2021 (EDT)

I took out all the manufacturer names where they didn't apply years ago. This product was marketed as the "LaserActive", much like "PlayStation", "Xbox", "Wii" etc. Fun fact - the heads of Sony were very keen to promote the PlayStation as a separate "thing" to Sony's electronics division in 1994 because they were afraid it might tarnish the wider brand.
Sega did stick their name in front of things, e.g. "Sega Saturn". Arguably less so with consoles like the Game Gear and Dreamcast, but it's too late for that now. Other examples where the company name is valid are the "Atari 2600" and "Nintendo DS".
I am almost certain that the vast majority of consoles here (if not all of them) are named correctly -Black Squirrel (talk) 07:39, 15 June 2021 (EDT)
Thanks for the response. I understand the reasoning, but this would mean we don't have a unified system for naming consoles: Sometimes we name hardware because of how it's marketed, and sometimes because of how the community chooses to title them (ie cases are handled individually). Which is understandable, but it doesn't feel very encyclopedic to say "we don't have a unified rule for this, so we have to do it on a case by case basis." More importantly, it makes the Wiki harder to use. It's counterintuitive seeing most hardware preceded by its manufacturer, but some others not. And while that kind of disparity makes sense in common culture, it's not right for an encyclopedia.
Packaging, instead of marketing, determines title. Marketing has a chance to miss the consumer, and isn't a guaranteed part of the experience. I'm fairly confident the LaserActive was packaged with a prominent Pioneer logo on the it's box.
I always feel like I sound like an ass when I talk online (I really don't mean to!), but unless we're going by something's packaging, we dont have any unified and reliable rule for how we name things. But for an example.... Corvettes are usually advertised and known under that name, but almost all encyclopedias will title their article "Chevrolet Corvette". SEED televisions, LaserActive predecessor

This needs to be incorporated into the article. Interesting stuff. CartridgeCulture (talk) 06:59, 15 June 2021 (EDT)

Games I don't think existed

Manhattan Requiem (Mega LD)

Apparently the only source is a single LDDB entry, and reading it doesn't inspire me with confidence. I think this is a case of "hey, Blue Chicago Blues was released on both, so this one PROBABLY would have too", but I don't know. Also those two versions were released with different publishing numbers, while the LDDB entry just copies the LDROM's publishing number. I can find zero evidence for this once existing.

Pretty Illusion Vol. 3

Another one I don't think exists. It's mentioned on LAPP as existing but I don't know. A third game IS teased on the artwork of the first two games, but I also can't find any evidence for this one either. Now I trust LAPP but even they're not perfect. No one is. But they're generally right. Out of either of these two, I think both were considered, but this might have gotten farther (at least into the "planned" stage.)
