Show "check cartridge" screen
If a second Game Gear isn't linked up with a Gear-to-Gear Cable, VS mode makes an error noise when you try and access it. However, if you keep trying, on the fifth attempt it will show the "check cartridge" screen, usually reserved for if there is an error during link play.
