24th April 2001, Fareham, Hampshire. UK.

Following the collapse of Nottingham-based developer Charybdis, Climax today announced that it is to employ 20 of the company's former staff. The move is a response to the redundancies at Charybdis and sees the ex-employees join Climax to work on Warhammer Online and another, as yet unannounced Internet project.

Located on the outskirts of Nottingham, Charybdis has been responsible for titles such as Magic & Mayhem: The Art Of Magic, Machines and The Quivering. Consisting principally of software engineers and graphic artists, the ex-Charybdis staff join the Climax Group with immediate effect, significantly boosting the manpower and the skillset of Climax's Nottingham software studio. The new employees join a company which continues to expand and that is increasingly well-positioned to become a major player in today's interactive entertainment industry.

"The situation at Charybdis was an unfortunate one for all concerned," says Paul Carruthers, MD for Climax's Online Studio. "But with such a big project on our hands, we're always interested in hiring talented and experienced people. Significantly, in their time at Charybdis, these guys have worked on the excellent Magic & Mayhem series, and so their skills are perfectly-suited to Warhammer."
