Outlaw Racing

From Sega Retro

To do

  • Development began before the Sega VR headset was even announced, and was intended for release as a standard Mega Drive game.
  • Artech first heard about the Sega VR from a Usenet rumor.
  • The game was "finalized" more or less, and extensively tested by SoA Quality Assurance.
  • Portions of the game's code (and definitely the graphical lessons learned from the project) were later incorporated into Motocross Championship.
  • The "final" game was stored on a series of standard floppy disks, which were unfortunately lost in a later company move. The only known remnants from the game known to exist are the game's development logs and a VHS tape(s) created by Alexander G. M. Smith which documented various development milestones and development hardware/software.
  • The reference website for this information is an excellent reference for the dichotomy between SoA's "cancellation reasons" vs. those of individual developers. Developers were generally most concerned with framerate and playability, while SoA/Sega was more concerned with press/child health concerns.
