Quick tip for uploading sprites

It would be a better idea to upload sprites of things like in-game items as single complete sheets rather than separate images, because we have a template that can crop them as necessary with the right parameters here. It helps keep file clutter down. The files you can find in this category should serve as some examples. --SorachiJirachi (talk) 14:12, 23 December 2021 (EST)

Omnis

When creating new omnis for games, check to make sure the game has any localisations (usually if the game page has multiple regional title screens) or non-Sega versions, and add "comparisonspage=yes" if they do. Platformers, RPGs and the like are likely to have maps, so add "mapspage=yes" for those too.

Also, there's no need to use "no" for omni parameters - the parameters only look for "yes" to add links, so not having the parameters there at all is just as effective. --SorachiJirachi (talk) 12:44, 24 August 2022 (EDT)

Bugs Bunny in Double Trouble

Since you've taken care of that game, do you think you could replace this file with a better screenshot in PNG? This one was cropped and saved as a JPEG for some reason. The extension will also need changing to PNG when you do so. --SorachiJirachi (talk) 18:48, 13 January 2023 (EST)

Sure, I uploaded it here: https://i.imgur.com/XEcQXrS.png It's for the Genesis version and not the SNES like the old screenshot (naturally).
I can't login to RetroCDN, which maybe you or another admin can help me with. It tells me: "Auto-creation of a local account failed: You have not specified a valid username." It looks like it auto-made an account for me there when I made my Sega Retro account (same creation time), but my Sega Retro password doesn't work there. Trying the "Forgot my password" thing says the account doesn't exist, but it also doesn't make me create a new account with the same name because the account already exists. So it sounds like my account is in limbo, but maybe there's some flag that can be changed that would activate it. Same problem with NEC Retro as well. I could probably just create a different account, but of course, I'd prefer to have the same user name across all the sites.

Ohhhhhh, login issue? In that case, I'll pass it on to an admin and see what we can do about it. I'll also upload the screenshot to the CDN on your behalf for the time being. --SorachiJirachi (talk) 12:50, 14 January 2023 (EST)

PDF screenshots

What's the program you use to convert screenshots to PDF for credits lists? I'm trying to do these myself for a few games on NEC Retro, but a lot of the cheapo free sites get the image dimensions wrong, and your PDF conversions manage to keep the screenshot resolutions mostly the same.

(...and speaking of NEC Retro, many games could do with the same expansion magic as Sega Retro) --SorachiJirachi (talk) 12:02, 28 May 2023 (EDT)

I use ImageMagick, a command-line program. I use it on Mac OS, but it's also available for Linux and Windows (I haven't used it on either, but it presumably works the same). I use this command to generate credits PDFs from all the PNGs in the current directory: convert -density 150 *.png credits.pdf
I forget the exact reasoning for that density number (we discussed it on one of the other Talk pages a while ago), but it creates the right size files as far as MediaWiki is concerned.
As for NEC Retro, unfortunately, I can't login with my account or create a new one with the same name (same with Retro CDN). I explained it in more detail above. Do you know who I should contact to help with this? Maybe it would work if someone simply deleted the Typhoon account on NEC Retro (then again, that might backfire and delete my account here as well).
--Typhoon (talk) 12:58, 28 May 2023 (EDT)
Ahhh right. I already had ImageMagick downloaded for another purpose (I think it was for DS/3DS-related conversion or extraction). Gave it a try with Railroad Tycoon and Marble Madness, and it works! Cheers for that.
As for the account issues, the best thing to do would be to ask another admin with proper access to the wikis. I know Scarred Sun would be able to, but they haven't been around for a few years. If all else fails, you may have to make a new account for NEC Retro (like "TyphoonNEC" or something) and specify on your user page who you are. --SorachiJirachi (talk) 13:15, 29 May 2023 (EDT)
There's an issue with File:Sonic Blast GG credits.pdf in that the screenshots are in the wrong order; specifically, the last two screenshots are first. I tried doing it myself, but the parameters you gave me don't seem to work properly for Game Gear screenshots.
Also, since they're screenshots from a Sonic game it'll also need to be moved to the CDN in case Sonic Retro has to use it. --SorachiJirachi (talk) 17:25, 23 August 2023 (EDT)
Okay, I'll upload a new version to RetroCDN if you want to go ahead and delete the old version. --Typhoon (talk) 17:52, 23 August 2023 (EDT)
It looks like RetroCDN wants a dpi value of 96 (rather than 150) to show the dimensions correctly. No idea why this is. --Typhoon (talk) 18:05, 23 August 2023 (EDT)

Duplication issue

Hiyo. Screenshots of each of the stages in Street Fighter II': Special Champion Edition and Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers have already been uploaded back in 2020 and exist on their respective comparison sub-pages:

--SorachiJirachi (talk) 08:48, 7 July 2023 (EDT)

Yeah, I did it deliberately in this case since I wanted to show all the character sprites. I didn't want to replace the old screenshots since it'd screw up the comparisons. --Typhoon (talk) 09:25, 7 July 2023 (EDT)
