Personal life

Richard Stewart was born in El Paso, Texas on January 5, 1925 to Richard Davant Stewart Jr.^[4]^[10]^[11] (son of Richard Davant Stewart^[12]^[13] and Anne Caroline Hardy), a service station operator from Canutillo, and Mary Vermillion Stewart^[14]^[15]^[16] (née Johnson^[17], daughter of Dr. Henry Franklin Vermillion,^[18]^[19]^[20]^[21]^[22]^[23] superintendent of the Southern Baptist Sanatorium^[24]^[25]^[26] of El Paso, and Ida Kate Gray Vermillion^[27]^[28], both of Eastland, Texas) and his brothers were William Robert Stewart and Henry Vermillion Stewart, both of San Francisco, California and James Franklin Stewart^[1]^[2]^[29], a rancher from Kelowna^[30], British Columbia, Canada, who ran the Casorso, Bulman and Chilco ranches under the business name of Kelowna Ranch, Inc.^[31] (incorporated on April 27, 1960^[32] as Kelowna Ranches, Ltd.^[33]^[34]), all descendants, through their father, of the Davant family, a Huguenot family who emigrated from England to Georgia in the 1700s.
