Thunder Force V (サンダーフォースＶ) was, for nearly a decade, the final entry in the Thunder Force series of shoot-'em-up games by Technosoft; it was also the last entry developed by them. It was originally released for the Sega Saturn in 1997, and only in Japan. A port with some changes, Thunder Force V: Perfect System, was released the following year for the PlayStation, which was released also in North America; the localization of this version, created by Working Designs, is notable in that it contains certain changes to gameplay, a staple of Working Designs releases.

As you might expect from a PlayStation/Saturn-era shooter, Thunder Force V grafts 3D graphics onto a 2D gameplay engine.

The sequel Thunder Force VI borrows many design elements from this game, such as the menu and weaponry.

Trivia

Has become the most expensive Thunder Force game on Sega systems.
