Disney's Aladdin (アラジン) is a platform game developed by Virgin Interactive in 1993. It is based on Disney's movie of the same name and was released for the Sega Mega Drive, Amiga, DOS, Game Boy, Game Boy Color and NES. An entirely different game was developed by SIMS for the Sega Master System and Sega Game Gear, and another version developed by Capcom exists for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System and Game Boy Advance, as Capcom still held the rights to develop Disney-themed games for Nintendo consoles.

Virgin's version of the game was seen as a milestone for the industry, as all the animations were drawn by Disney artists frame by frame. It meant that Aladdin looked significantly better than most other platformers on the market, and was able to provide gamers with the same graphical style as seen in the film. Many of Aladdin's developers would move on to form Shiny Entertainment, and produce Earthworm Jim.

Gameplay

Mega Drive Version

In each stage you play as Aladdin, who must get through the stage while accomplishing some task told to you at the start of each level (such as finding Scarab pieces). A throws apples (which can be used to hurt enemies and which you have a limited supply of but can collect throughout the level), B swings your sword, and C jumps. Before the start of the game, you get a screen showing what each in-game item is used for.

If you collect an Abu head in the level, after completing it you will go to a bonus stage where Abu must collect all the falling apples without getting hurt by falling pots too many times to win. If you get a Genie head (but not a pot that turns into one; those are checkpoints), you get a spin on the Genie's bonus stage, which is merely a slot machine-esque game where you can either get bonus items or lose all your spins by hitting Jafar.
