Between 1992 and 2003, Serbia and Montenegro were unified as a single state known as the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (FRY); not to be confused with the earlier Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRY) which in the 1990s was in the process of breaking up into its pre-communist constituents). From 2003 the state was known as "Serbia and Montenegro" before both halves declared independance from each other in 2006.

Socialist Yugoslavia

Socialist Yugoslavia did not belong to the Warsaw Pact. A small amount of Sega, Nintendo and Atari games and consoles were sold here.In the 70s Yugoslavia was one of the countries where Sega imported its game machines. The only known company that sold Sega Master System was Comy, which began importing the console from 1990.[1]

Serbia and Montenegro

1992-1995

The situation began to change after 1992. At the same time, famiclones appeared, such as Terminator 2, which was similar to the Sega Mega Drive and the Pegasus console.Since this year, IVC became a distributor which, apart from selling Master System, brought its new model and also Mega Drive and Game Gear. Since 1994, DigiTech and Beosoft (who also represented Nintendo in this region) have been the largest distributors. They decided to replace the sales of computers with the sale of consoles. Sega Mega Drive model II ,Sega Mega-CD II and Sega 32X arrive to Serbia and Montenegro. At this time, the representative of Sega became ActiveMagic. Other major authorized distributors were Biosfera Media and KonTiki.

Mega Drive was the most popular console. Many places called Sega Klubovi and Segoteka were created, in which the Sega games could be borrowed. A Sega Klinci show was also created at that time.

Mega Drive clones

Many clones were simple famiclones that looked like Mega Drive. In Serbia and Montenegro, one of the Mega Drive models was officially sold in a green box from the Asian market. His two clones were created. The first was the famiclone which had a picture of the pistol added on the box. The second one looked the same as the original, but came from a factory that produced similar versions for the Russian market[2]. In addition to these clones, Star Drive 2 and Saba could also be found on the market.[3]Rumors say that in 1996 Power Pegasus appeared. There were also pirate games on the market mainly sold by Beosoft.

1996-2003

The first Sega Saturn consoles appeared at local retailers in December 1995.Larger sales were expected to start in 1997. Unfortunately, most players switched from Mega Drive to PlayStation and the console also had to compete with Nintendo 64. Stores preferred to sell the new N64 than the failing Saturn, which made the console sold even worse than in 1996.

In 2000, Sega Dreamcast appeared at local distributors like Beosoft.[4]

2004-present

In 2004 Sega started cooperation with Videotop. From 2010 to 2015, Computerland was a distributor of Sega in Serbia and Montenegro. Videotop return in 2016 as a distributor of Sega in all former Yugoslavia [5]In 2017, Videotop became the property of Computerland Group.[6] In 2018, Videotop was acquired by Colby which also belongs to the Computerland Group. The distribution was taken over by Iris Mega.
