The Ren & Stimpy Show Presents Stimpy's Invention is a 1993 platform game for the Sega Mega Drive by BlueSky Software and Sega based on the Ren & Stimpy cartoon. The game is named after and loosely inspired by an episode of the series.

Story

Stimpy shows off his latest invention to Ren Hoëk, the Mutate-O-Matic, which is a machine that transforms ordinary household garbage into delicious food. Stimpy demonstrates it by turning it to its highest setting, which results in the machine overloading and exploding, scattering its pieces all over the place. To fix it, the duo must recollect the scattered parts, reassemble the machine, and switch it off.

Gameplay

Map

The game is a platformer played as Ren and Stimpy simultaneously. When played with one player, the player controls one of the pair and the other follows. With two players, each controls a different character simultaneously. The duo finds a piece of Stimpy's machine in each level and then disables the machine in the last level by pushing four switches. The game has no conventional boss fights. The characters are moved with Left and Right and jump with C. In single-player mode, the active character can be swapped by pausing the game and pressing any direction on the D-Pad or A, B, or C.

The pair has a number of moves that they can perform as a team, which differ slightly depending on the lead character. Characters can attack with B, which is a close-range attack when the pair is separated or a ranged attack when they are together. The ranged attack can be aimed with Down+B or Up+B. The pair can run by holding A while moving or dash across obstacles by pressing A when standing still. They can dig through certain terrain with Down+A. They can fly a short distance in the air with Up+C, allowing them to reach higher platforms. Some segments diverge from these basic controls, such as the flying or bicycle segments.

Characters have a health bar at the bottom of the screen and lose a life when the bar is depleted. The game ends if players run out of lives, but it has unlimited continues. In single-player games, the inactive character is invincible and can be used as a shield. If the inactive character falls off screen, Powdered Toast Man rescues him and brings him back to the active character. In two-player games, both players share a health bar and lives, and both characters are needed to scroll the screen. There are numerous item pick-ups that award bonus points, and extra lives are awarded for collecting 50,000 points.
