Sonicteam Ltd.[1] (株式会社 ソニックチーム), commonly stylized as SONICTEAM[2][3][4][5][6], was a development company established by Sega in 2000. It was a continuation of what had previously been an internal division, Sega Software R&D Dept. 8, which (alongside its predecessor Sega CS3, had been trading as "Sonic Team" since 1996).

In 2004 the company would be disbanded and development brought back in-house into Sega, briefly being renamed Sonicteam Division[7] or Sonicteam Div[8], becoming Global Entertainment R&D Dept. 1 in early 2005. As had been the case prior to 2000 with R&D8, GE1 continued to trade as Sonic Team.
