The Adventures of Batman & Robin is a Sega Game Gear action platform game developed by Novotrade. Based on the 1992 television show Batman: The Animated Series (after its retitling to The Adventures of Batman & Robin), it was first published in the United States and Europe by Sega in mid-1995, and was later brought to Brazil by Tec Toy the following October. It is unrelated to the identically-named Sega Mega Drive and Sega Mega-CD games.

Story

The Joker has assembled a gang of old Batman foes and kidnapped Robin, and Batman has to go save him.

Batman's rogues gallery

The game is an action platformer. There are four different levels, each with two or three stages, where Batman runs around beating up thugs and jumping between platforms before taking on a boss. Each stage ends with a boss encounter, culminating in a fight with a classic Batman villain at the final stage of the level. The four levels take Batman through a theater where he takes on the Mad Hatter, a frozen office building where he takes on Mr. Freeze, a graveyard where he takes on the Scarecrow, and finally an amusement park where he takes on Harley and the Joker.

Batman moves with Left and Right and crouches with Down. He jumps with 2 and jumps down from platforms with Down+2. Pressing the jump button twice does a double jump. He enters doorways and elevators with Up.

Batman typically fights with projectile attacks; he throws a weapon with 1. He has an unlimited supply of Batarangs, but can pick up other weapons with limited supply in small item boxes along the way, all of which are more powerful than the Batarangs. Pressing  START  brings up a menu that lets Batman change his weapon and shows his ammunition levels. Once Batman gets close to an enemy, he switches to melee attacks, which deal more damage than the projectiles. When close to an enemy, he punches with 1, does a sweep kick with Down+1, and does a jumping kick with 1+2. Batman can throw projectiles from jumping and crouching positions.

Batman starts out with 9 extra lives; he respawns where he died after losing one, with a full health bar, all ammunition intact, and all inflicted damage and defeated enemies accounted for. There are also multiple extra lives and life bar refill items spread through the stages. The game has infinite continues and a password system, allowing the player to start over from any previously reached stage. The only punishment for having to continue is that the player's score is reset to zero.
